Following the successful premiere of the drama miniseries "Liberame - Nach dem Sturm" and its well-received television screening, Tim and I decided to continue our collaboration on future projects. Our musical partnership had developed its unique character, and we genuinely enjoyed the creative process, making it a logical step to maintain the momentum.
With several upcoming projects on our plate, one particular opportunity held personal significance for Tim. We were tasked with composing the music for the second season of the sitcom "MAPA," a series for which Tim had previously provided the score for its first season. Our established creative process allowed us to dive into the story's core and conceptualize its sonic identity. We aimed to offer thematic ideas to the director even before a single frame was filmed. Immersing ourselves in the script and engaging in discussions with director Jano Ben Chaabane, we embarked on our creative journey.
For this project, Tim took the lead, steering us toward a more organic sound compared to our previous collaboration. While experimenting with my Strat and GuitarViol one day, I stumbled upon a theme. When I shared it with Tim the following day, he embraced it enthusiastically. This led to the exploration of multiple iterations of the theme in various styles, resulting in five alternative versions that would serve as our creative palette.
Subsequently, we meticulously crafted a total of 14 distinct musical layouts. These compositions provided the editor with a rich tapestry of options to synchronize with the visuals, minimizing the need for temporary music placeholders during the editing process.
Upon receiving the first cuts of all six episodes, we were impressed by how seamlessly our music intertwined with the narrative. However, one episode stood apart from the rest. It showcased the main character, a single father, narrating a bedtime story to his daughter. The visuals ventured into the child's whimsical fantasy world, featuring cowboys, cowgirls, astronauts, game shows, and surreal appearances. It presented an exhilarating challenge for us to compose the music that would breathe life into this enchanting tale
Dedicated to our craft, we delved into the creative process, crafting music inspired by the Western genre to match the episode's imaginative storytelling. Our compositions effectively conveyed the range of emotions woven into the narrative, including drama, laughter, sadness, and frustration, enhancing the viewing experience.
In the end, we delivered a score that was both musically engaging and emotionally resonant. Our work brought satisfaction not only to us but to all those involved in the project. For us, this marked not the conclusion but a continuation of our creative journey, as we simultaneously poured our passion into two other exciting projects. Our commitment to storytelling through music remains unwavering, and we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in our creative exploration.
MAPA Season 2 is available for streaming on the ARD Mediatheck and the Original Series Soundtrack is available in all major music streaming services.
