Abikalypse was the third project in a row that we did together with my friend and director Adolfo Kolmerer. It had the peculiarity of being our first project for a big studio so there was no pressure at all to make it great. Due to the fact that it’s been a while since I finished this project, the details of the process aren’t fresh, so I will talk about the global experience.
The first meetings with the director were to talk about influences, as much cinematic as musical. We’ve known each other for years and projects by then so we already know what we like and how to communicate our ideas. In relation to our previous projects, where the bigger part was underscoring, this movie needed a bigger amount of songs because a large part of it happened during parties.
This also was my first time working with a music supervisor. Definitely not a job to take lightly. Music supervisors are very important to help mold the sound aesthetics of a movie. We worked very well together with Peggy Weiß and managed to create a beautiful, at moments soft and lovely, at moments sad, at moments fun and at moments action-driven musical amalgam.
I wrote my very first car-chase music piece, had the chance to work again with my wonderful friend and singer Barbie Williams, composed a piano piece for a montage that travels through love, disappointment, anger, and resignation.
Summing up it was a great experience that I’ll cherish forever. If you want to listen to the music, you can find it all on my Spotify profile!
